Note: This picture's first buyer, Arthur C. Newby, was an American businessman and pioneer of the bicycle and automotive industries in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was best known as one of the founders of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The early provenance on this painting was developed from an H. Lieber & Co. sales ledger. That ledger shows the painting sold to Mr. Newby in 1924 (inventory no. 1032). This information is confirmed by antique markings discovered on the back of the stretcher. Mr. Newby’s name appears frequently in the Lieber ledger as a regular customer. Fine 22K gold gilt hand carved period-style frame.
