Oriano Galloni: DiPura, an exhibition of mixed media works, paintings and sculptures by artist Oriano Galloni, is on view through April 27 at Rosenbaum Contemporary’s Boca Raton, Fla., gallery (150 Yamato Road.)

This new series of works fuse the classical with the ordinary and merge painting and sculpture into a new unified form Galloni calls DiPura. He coined the term by combining the Italian word for painting, “dipinto,” and the Italian word “scultura” for sculpture. The resulting word, “DiPura”—“say pure” in Italian—resonates powerfully with the artist as purity has been a central concept in his work for decades. DiPura is the interplay of physical dimension and existential paradox. The artist’s process of dismantling aesthetic distinctions and his discovery of silence in noise, joy in banality, rebirth in refuse, beauty in commerce and humor in mass marketing reveals the unexpected play of life.

The works in the DiPura series combine the classical, carved Carrara marble sculptures Galloni is known for with found objects. Inspired by a bottle he found while paddleboarding in Biscayne Bay, the series began as a way to give new life to objects that others had tossed aside. It has since evolved as a way to honor treasured objects, such as a favorite old shoe, that have served the artist faithfully and unconditionally.

Oriano Galloni: DiPura can be viewed during Rosenbaum Contemporary’s Boca Raton gallery hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as on its website www.rosenbaumcontemporary.com.

Jerald Melberg Gallery proudly presents a solo exhibition of paintings and pastels by the celebrated landscape painter, Wolf Kahn (1927-2020).

Wolf Kahn touched thousands of lives as a friend, teacher, patron and brilliant colorist. He doggedly explored the infinite possibilities found in the landscape before him or conjured from his splendid imagination.  Remembering Wolf pays tribute to this extraordinary artist. A master of both pastel and oil, Kahn is considered by many to be the premier landscape painter in America. Kahn is an artist who embodies the synthesis of his modern abstract training with the palette of Matisse, Rothko’s sweeping bands of color, and the atmospheric qualities of American Impressionism. It is precisely this fusion of color, spontaneity and representation that has produced such a rich and expressive body of work with unmatched luminosity.

A Divine Comedy, an exhibition of 10 paintings by artist Danielle Kosann, will open with an artist reception on Feb. 8 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Rosenbaum Contemporary’s Palm Beach gallery, 2 Via Parigi • Worth Avenue in Palm Beach, Fla. The reception is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending can RSVP to [email protected] or (561) 994-9180 x201. Kosann’s works will remain on exhibit through February 29 and can be viewed during regular gallery hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Kosann creates intricate narratives, often tinged with humor and satire, within her paintings. She playfully uses references from Instagram imagery, theater, film, books and art history to create colorful, whimsical worlds that feel familiar and nostalgic while appealing to our desire to escape, whether in real life or through technology. A nod to Dante’s epic poem, A Divine Comedy, the works in the exhibition also explore the fine line between escape and excess. Kosann works large to completely immerse the viewer in each scene.

“So many of the things that feel familiar to us come from things we’ve seen online, and it becomes hard to distinguish between these images and our own memories,” Kosann said. “My intent is to transport the viewer to an era that feels nostalgic and familiar in a way they can’t identify…that also fills them with a sense of longing for a bygone era.”

Through her work, Kosann also explores the dualities of what it means to be human and the way in which, when we escape from reality, we tap into other versions of ourselves, especially when we get lost in something that brings us joy or reprieve. In this vein, Kosann often paints humans—especially the women who dominate the worlds she creates—as animal-like creatures.

Kosann is a contributing artist to Graydon Carter’s Air Mail. Her special projects include limited edition prints for The Carlyle Hotel and collaborations with luxury brands including scarves for Bergdorf Goodman and a mural for Marfa Stance. A Divine Comedy is her first solo exhibition.

Interstellar Transmissions, an exhibition of sculptures by “blob” artist Mike Hammer will open with an artist reception on Nov. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rosenbaum Contemporary gallery, 150 Yamato Road in Boca Raton, Fla. The event is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending can RSVP to [email protected] or (561) 994-9180 x201. Hammer’s works will remain on exhibit through January 3, 2024, and can be viewed during regular gallery hours, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

Hammer is known for his “blob” paintings, three-dimensional works created by using paint to create circular layers. While each resulting “blob” is an individual object with a unique size, shape and color scheme, each “blob” also works in relation to all of the others to create a unified whole.  In his new Interstellar Transmissions series Hammer moves his art away from the wall. Each work in the series provides multiple focal points forcing the viewer to move around and interact with the sculpture in order to see all of its various aspects. The series was inspired by the idea of monolithic works created by alien life forms that appear on Earth for humans to experience.

Hammer’s work has been the subject of articles in The Toronto Star and Los Angeles Times, among other publications, and can be found in several collections including the Department of Foreign Affairs, New York.

Jerald Melberg Gallery is pleased to present Playing With Fire, a solo exhibition of works by Dennis Lee Mitchell, an artist who creates works on paper purely with smoke from a burning flame.

Dennis Lee Mitchell lives and works in Washington, D.C. and is a recipient of a Pollock/Krasner Foundation Grant. His recent works are smoke and colored smoke drawings, elegant mandalas that resemble the organic forms of large-petaled flowers and spiral shells. Mitchell’s work is in the permanent collection of the Illinois State Art Museum, Chicago, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, Salt Lake City and the Museum Boymans-van Beuningen, Rotterdam.

My work is a result of my connection with nature — the fact that nothing lasts forever.  Smoke is the point where something becomes dust.  It’s where the magic happens.   –Dennis Lee Mitchell

An exhibition featuring oil on linen paintings from two series by British artist James Fisher.

In the first series, Fisher used fragments of drawings he made of the strange and beautiful plants in a local arboretum collaged together in his studio with images from dreams. His dialed-up palette is inspired by Technicolor films such as The Wizard of Oz, while the flattened planes of his landscapes reference Japanese prints and Indian miniatures. The resulting paintings depict imagined worlds—fantastic gardens inhabited by mysterious creatures.

The paintings in the second series, made in response to Wilhelm Müller’s libretto for Franz Schubert’s Winterreise song cycle and John Clare’s Recollections of Journey from Essex, reflect worlds imagined by the writers. Beyond Ice and Night and Fear and You Won’t Hear My Step attempt to capture in paint the Winterreise protagonist’s shifts between the present, which he perceives as threatening, and his pleasant memories of the past. The Air of Highland Mary depicts Clare’s childhood sweetheart, Mary Joyce, whom he mistakenly believed he had married, holding Clare in the form of an imagined animal, in this case, a turtle. The ethereal quality of the figure and the transient landscape, achieved through the accumulation of delicate stains and traces of powdered pigment, visually capture the mix of fact, fantasy, false memories and hallucinations in Clare’s prose.

Fisher received his Ph.D. in fine art from the University of Gloucestershire, his M.A. in Painting from the Royal College of Art, and his B.A. with honors in Painting from the University of Brighton, England. The exhibit at Rosenbaum Contemporary will be the first exhibition of his work in the United States.

James Fisher: Imagined Worlds can be viewed during Rosenbaum Contemporary’s regular Boca Raton gallery hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as on its website www.rosenbaumcontemporary.com.

Maikel Martinez: The Lost Landscapes/Los Pasajes Perdidos is now on view through Sept. 2 at Rosenbaum Contemporary’s gallery at 150 Yamato Road in Boca Raton, Fla. The exhibition features new paintings by popular Cuban artist Maikel Martinez.

While at first glance Martinez’s works appear to be photographs or photorealistic paintings, upon closer inspection they are revealed to be places that don’t actually exist. In each, Martinez’s memories of places from his past combine with his dreams and internal dialogues to create landscapes that have been reinvented in his mind. The resulting scenes capture and express human feelings such as loneliness, silence, tranquility, fear and desire.

“The images that appear on the canvas represent a kind of magical dictation from my unconscious,” Martinez said. “Throughout the creative process some of these images are transformed while others remain true to the image as originally dreamed.”

Martinez was born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba. He received the Landscape Award at the 2000 Salon Nacional, sponsored by the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and held in homage to Tiburcio Lorenzo, the Cuban painter recognized as the Cuban “Lord of the Landscape.” His work has been exhibited in institutions and galleries in Europe, North and South America and the Caribbean including the Royal Bank of Canada and the Museo Provincial de Historia in Pinar del Rio, Cuba.

Maikel Martinez: The Lost Landscapes/Los Pasajes Perdidos can be viewed during Rosenbaum Contemporary’s regular gallery hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as on its website www.rosenbaumcontemporary.com.

Jerald Melberg Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of recent paintings, sculpture and works on paper by the celebrated Argentine artist Raul Diaz.  In this new body of work, Diaz continues the exploration of boats as a metaphor for the journey of life. The opening reception will be held at the gallery on Friday evening, June 9, with the artist in attendance from 6-8pm.

Diaz draws his imagery from childhood memories of lake fishing with his father and grandfather. The sight of wooden fishing boats, either dotting the water or stacked on the beach, is indelible in the artist’s memory, and these same vessels frequently appear in the work as a metaphor for life’s journey. As his paintings on wood panels are almost always bas-relief, it was a natural progression for him to begin making sculpture. Taking the boat and figural images into three dimensions he creates a new experience for the viewer and expands his own technical prowess, employing both wood and bronze. In this exhibition, Diaz also explores his chosen imagery with painstakingly-created handmade, moulded works on paper.

Ivan Loboguerrero: Hidden In Nature is now on view through July 1 at Rosenbaum Contemporary at 150 Yamato Road, Boca Raton, Fla. The exhibition contains works from the Colombian artist’s popular “hidden in nature” series which features plant-life environments that, upon much closer examination, reveal hidden human figures within. By hiding figures, the artist invites viewers to step away, spend time with his work and ultimately experience spirituality.

Loboguerrero won first place in painting in the V Encuentro Internacional de Artistas Plásticos, Alberto Urdaneta in Bogotá. His work has been exhibited widely in Europe, North America and South America including in the Museo de Arte Hispano in Miami and the VI Salón Nacional de Artistas in Bogotá, Colombia. His auction record includes Christie’s, New York, among others. His  work has also been highly sought after by collectors since he was added to the Rosenbaum Contemporary’s artist roster in 2021.
