( b. 1956 )
José Ismael Rivera is an international contemporary artist. He was born in Bogotá, Colombia in 1956, where he went on to receive a Masters of Fine Arts specializing in painting from the university there. His artworks are in corporate and private collections around the world. Ismael Rivera seeks to exist outside the constraints of society as we know it, rejecting the dynamics of dominance between social groups supported by validating norms. It is this desire to escape that incites the artist to examine the consequences of these forces of power.
Rivera understands that art will not fully resolve anyone's conflicts with the world, but he uses his work to explore and dispute how human existence is evolved and shaped by the culture we create. He believes it is the responsibility of the artist to leave their mark on the collective memory through their creation of artwork. Art is more than mere object, it's a conceptual language that transcends material, and an infinite imprint on the trajectory of humanity.
